Hire of the South London Gallery for private functions
With beautiful high ceilings in the freshly re-furbished Victorian main gallery, period architecture mixed with modern new facilities throughout the building, and a garden retreat the South London Gallery is a distinctive and unique location for private functions, receptions and corporate events.

When is the South London Gallery available for hire?
The South London Gallery shows temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. Often the work is delicate or takes up a large amount of physical space. As a result we are usually only able to hire the gallery between exhibitions and for a limited number of days and evenings throughout the year. However, occasionally it is possible to hire the garden space when exhibitions are showing. As a result you hire an exclusive function venue that your guests are unlikely to have attended a party at in the past. What facilities are available at the South London Gallery?
The main gallery space measures 20 by 10 metres with an approximately 10 metre high lantern ceiling offering ample space to add dining tables, a presentation stage or dance floor. Additionally we have a number of smaller rooms available. During the day the main gallery is lit entirely by natural light through the ceiling windows. In the evening, ceiling mounted spot lights offer the flexibility to give your event the mood of your choice. There are limited ‘tea-point’ facilities to prepare hot food on site but external caterers, of your choice, are welcome to use rooms adjoining the main gallery for basic preparation and to bring in their own hot or cold food units. There is a ramped access to the building and washroom facilities for wheelchair users, baby changing facilities and a cloakroom.

What is the capacity of the South London Gallery?
Our main gallery space has a capacity of 150 to 300 guests depending on seating arrangements. During Spring and Summer hire of the gallery and garden increases capacity to 250 to 400 guests. Our smaller rooms are suitable for drinks receptions of up to 25 people.

Can I hire the South London Gallery for an art exhibition?
We are delighted to offer hire of the gallery and garden for functions but we regret that we are unable to hire the space for art exhibitions.

How much will it cost?
The cost of hire will depend on the scale of your event and you will need to add VAT, staff and cleaning costs to the following guide prices: hire of the main gallery space and garden for one day, approximately 10am-6pm, is £1,250; for the evening, approximately 6-10pm, is £1,000; for both day and evening is £2,000; and for smaller spaces is £500.
