The Non-Fiction Book Club: Resistance

WED 19 APR, WED 24 MAY, WED 19 JUL, 7-9PM, MEETING ROOM, FREE

Overview

The Non-Fiction Book Club, initiated by Leonie Shinn-Morris and Bryony White, explores a selection of non-fiction texts drawn together in response to a specific topic over three monthly sessions. The book club spans a wide breadth of non-fiction forms, including personal essays and memoirs, creative non-fiction and literary criticism, screenings of film essays and long-form journalism. Non-fiction is a protean, expansive genre, one that is often used to broadly define and label varying forms, modes and styles of writing. Bringing together what may seem to be disparate styles and authors, each month this book club will offer an opportunity to explore the various forms and guises that non-fiction can take, in order to challenge, unsettle and transgress our understanding of the genre.

The second season of the Non-Fiction Book Club, responds to the current political climate, we turn our attention to a set of texts centred around ‘Resistance’. The sessions will explore questions of authority, control, activism, and collaboration, as well as engaging with the breadth of political, social and bodily forms of resistance. In addition to the reading list, we encourage participants to bring other relevant materials to the sessions, including excerpts from other texts, essays, zines, film essays, and other non-fiction forms.

The Non-Fiction Book Club is limited to 12 places, to reserve your place and receive access to texts please email thenonfictionbookclub@gmail.com. The book club is free but spaces are limited and on a first come first served basis.
