Euan Uglow / Sargy Mann Book Launch
WED 29 MAR 2017, 6-9PM, FREE, SLG BOOKSHOP
Book launch for Euan Uglow / Sargy Mann, published after the exhibition at The Collection. This book and exhibition bring together the work of two painters who first met at Camberwell Art School in 1960 and who in very different ways devoted their lives as painters to what Robert Pepperell, in his essay in this book, calls subjective realism.
In the 1960s Camberwell Art School was at the heart of a quiet revolution in figurative painting. Euan Uglow, Sargy Mann and others, including Frank Auerbach were passionately committed to making work about direct perceptual experiences, influenced not just by the work of the masters of European art but also by the revolution in the science of perception which was happening at the time. In very different ways these two artists ask us to think about what it means to see and remind us what a wonderful and extraordinarily complex thing it is to try to communicate that experience with others.
The book was designed by Chris Bedson Creative and is distributed by John Rule.
This event is free and there is no need to book.
