Founded by Camilla Johnson-Hill, Sue Whiteley and Hikari Yokoyama, the SLG Council is a small group of people who support the South London Gallery’s award-winning education programmes for children and young people, including REcreative, Art Assassins and the SLG’s schools programme.
As a member of the SLG Council, your support will directly help children and young people from diverse and often disadvantaged backgrounds to learn new skills, make new friends and become more actively involved in contemporary art. SLG Council members ensure these important initiatives continue to thrive at the heart of the gallery’s activities.
SLG Council members enjoy a close relationship with the SLG artists and staff and are invited to an exciting programme of events throughout the year. These include private tours of SLG exhibitions, visits to artists’ studios with the curatorial team, invitations to exhibition openings and dinners at the SLG, and VIP access to national and international art fairs.
Furthermore, each year, an artist is invited by the SLG to work with the luxury porcelain house Meissen, to design a limited-edition plate. Gary Hume designed the plate for the Council's inaugural year and the latest in the series is by Ian Davenport, SLG Council members receive one of these unique artworks for each year of their support.
