South by South: Ayanda

This iteration of South by South presents Ayanda (2015) directed by Sara Blecher. The film tells the story of a young woman in Johannesburg whose dream of running a retro car restoration business is threatened by dark family secrets.
Following the film screening there will be a skype Q & A with the director Sara Blecher.
The accompanying masterclass which runs from 4-6pm before the film screening, is open to all aspiring filmmakers. The masterclass will explore the art of cinematography with award winning cinematographer Fernando Ruiz. Participants of the masterclass are invited to view the film for free.

Sara Blecher lives in Johannesburg where she has just recently completed production on the feature, Dis Ek, Anna. Her first feature film Otelo Burning has been screened with great critical acclaim and won over 17 international awards.
A graduate of NYU she also works as a drama and documentary producer/director. Sara has made some outstanding and noteworthy documentaries including Kobus And Dumile for which she won CNN's African journalist of the year award as well as Surfing Soweto, which won the South African Film and Television Golden Horn Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2012 (SAFTAS).
