The Sunday Spot: Imann Gaye

18 & 25 JUN 2017, 2-4PM, CLORE STUDIO, FREE

Overview

For the last two Sunday Spot sessions in June, artist Imann Gaye invites you to explore the relationship between hard and soft materials through sensory play. Workshops will use the Clore Studio as a laboratory for experiments, using a seesaw, cameras and tripods in order to investigate materials and their transformations.

All sessions are inclusive, for more information on access to the gallery please read here.

Please note that you don't have to attend all sessions to take part. The Sunday Spot is an ongoing series of free, drop-in family activities which takes place every Sunday from 2-4pm, suitable for children aged 3-12 years.

Biography

Imann Gaye is a second year sculpture student at Wimbledon College of Art. She uses mediums such as video, photography and sculpture and experiments with concrete, water, sand and everyday objects.

Imann’s practice tends toward playfulness, objects unfold themselves in humorous and unexpected ways throughout set-up scenarios.

Imann is interested in how different materials and objects interact with one another, and how they can reveal conflictual material properties. Video is an effective and accessible medium to reflect the importance of change within the process. Gravity, weight, balance, pressure, and wind act as conductive wires to trigger these actions.

Besides her video-based work, she uses photography to document the varying and progressive sequences that in turn inform new ideas for her sculptural practice.

Throughout her research, Imann is interested in how language operates as a tool to systematise and identify the world surrounding us.

Imann worked at The Shop Of Possibilities during April and May 2017, organising a series of workshops with local children from Sceaux Gardens. She is also interested in the social function of art and the relation between audience and society. Imann is currently interning at a ceramic studio.
