The Sunday Spot: Maru Rojas
SUN 8, 15, 22, 29 JAN 2017, 2-4PM, CLORE STUDIO, FREE
For the Sunday Spot in January, artist Maru Rojas invites children and families to take time: to allow the time to do things without a defined purpose as a small act of resistance! At the start of this new year, come along to challenge the idea of busyness as a measure of success, and allow yourself the time to do pointless activities.
Take part in a range of actions and be encouraged to feel in the present moment: making origami and glitter jars, blowing bubbles and plaiting, cleaning beans and making tortillas (an activity from Maru’s childhood growing up in Mexico.)
All sessions are inclusive, for more information on access to the gallery please read here.
Please note that you don’t have to attend all sessions to take part. The Sunday Spot is an ongoing series of free, drop-in family activities which takes place every Sunday from 2-4pm, suitable for children aged 3-12 years.
Maru Rojas is a Mexican artist, writer and facilitator based in London, and a MFA Art Writing graduate from Goldsmiths College.
Maru's writing and artistic practice examines the political decisions we make everyday in order to construct subtly subversive actions and experiences. Within these small acts of resistance Maru challenges institutionalised ideas or concepts – be it within education, the built space or public space, human relationships and our relationship to animals & objects.
In 2013 Maru was UNESCO/Aschberg Artist in Residence at the Bundanon Trust in Australia. Maru has exhibited work in the UK, the US, Denmark and Mexico and Maru's writing has been published in A-N magazine, Art in Print (US), This is Tomorrow, and other independent publications in the UK.
