Tom Phillips presents Irma: An Opera at the SLG

Tom Phillips RA is one of Britain’s most versatile artists: a painter, printmaker, librettist and composer, as well as notable Peckham resident.

To mark his 80th birthday, world-class director and designer Netia Jones, and her company Lightmap, joins Anton Lukoszevieze, and his acclaimed ensemble Apartment House, to present the first multimedia performance and installation of a new, full version of Phillips’ opera Irma, drawn from his Victorian novel artwork A Humument.

Taking place in the South London Gallery’s main space on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September 2017, this landmark new production celebrates one of Britain’s most distinguished artists, recognising Phillips’ work as a composer and wider influence on the world of music.
