Artist Abbas Zahedi discusses his practice and influences with artist and documentary filmmaker May Abdalla.
ABOUT
May Abdalla has made documentaries around the world for BBC, Channel 4 and Al Jazeera about housing, revolution and punk music. She is the co-founder of Anagram, an award-winning creative company specialising in interactive storytelling and immersive experience design. She has made interactive sound sculptures, an immersive theatre show about the UK’s relationship with Syria and a video game about the social history of a building embedded into the building itself.
Abbas Zahedi (b. 1984, London) studied at Central Saint Martins and University College London. Recent exhibitions and performances include Whitechapel Gallery, London; Wolverhampton Art Gallery, UK; and 57th Venice Biennale, Italy. Recent workshops, lectures and residency projects include Raven Row, London; South London Gallery; Wysing Arts Centre, UK; Tate Britain and Tate Exchange, UK. Zahedi was awarded a School for Social Entrepreneurs (PwC) Fellowship in 2017 for his work with migrant communities in the UK.
