The two works by Gavin Turk in the SLG collection demonstrate two approaches deployed by Turk in his deliberations into the nature of authorship, originality and authenticity: the self-conscious creation of the ‘myth’ of the artist, conveyed in the self portrait, Portrait of Something that I’ll Never Really See, 1997; and the playful interventions and performances that parody works by other artists.
