The inaugural Big Family Press commission was led by artists’ collective One of My Kind (OOMK).
OOMK developed a resource pack for children to explore, value and share their personal experiences in addition to an exhibition and archive in the First Floor Galleries in Spring 2018.
OOMK’s resource pack offers a series of creative suggestions for children and their families to use DIY publishing to explore, value and share personal experiences. The pack prompts participants to think about what makes us unique; the things we know, our relationship to others, the places we live and the objects in our lives.
You are encouraged to use these resources at home or in school, to articulate, share and archive your knowledge, experiences and values. They can be used independently as a family or used together as a class as lesson plans for KS1 or KS2 classrooms or an after-school provision.
The five activity sheets have been developed to support children to make their own magazines, write short stories about their neighbourhood, create their own archives, make personal patterns and maps and can be downloaded at the links below.
OOMK were in residency at Oliver Goldsmith Primary School, Camberwell, from September 2017 to May 2018. During this time, the Big Family Press was: Adrian, Adrian, AJ, Andrew, Ava, Azaria, Ben, Elijah, Emma, Francis, Fraser, Gedion, Haja, Heidi, Jarra, Joell, Justin, Kitty, Layla, Leon, Lola, Lorna, Maddie, Momodou, Nuria, Olivia, Sahara, Sofia, Tianna, Tylan and Zahraa.

BIOGRAPHIES
The Big Family Press is a community printing press developed with children aged 4 – 12 in after-school care at Oliver Goldsmith Primary School, Camberwell. The group meets weekly during term-time and collaborates with artists on a range of creative and critical activities using DIY publishing. One of My Kind (OOMK) is a collaborative publishing practice led by Rose Nordin, Sofia Niazi and Heiba Lamara.
Working together since 2014, OOMK make, publish and distribute books and printed works which arise from self-initiated projects. OOMK also commission new works by women artists and co-curate DIY Cultures, one of the UK’s largest annual independent publishing fairs. With a focus on self-publishing and education, OOMK founded and run a community Risograph printing press in East London, Rabbits Road Press.
