Film Africa 2024: My Home
Sat 2 Nov 2024, 6-9pm

Three children sit together and smile and laugh.

£10 / £5 MEMBERS / £5 CONCESSIONS

My Home is a vibrant collection of short films that explores the interplay between people, culture, and the environment across Africa and the diaspora. These films bring to life the harmony between communities and their landscapes, the resilience of forgotten histories, and the ongoing struggles for recognition and freedom.

From the colourful rhythm of life in Tanzania’s Musoma region to the reimagining of diaspora journeys, and from the fight for the Khoi people’s recognition in South Africa to the resistance movements in Nigeria, this collection offers a profound look at heritage, identity, and the fight for justice.

Please note that this screening is no longer a special Dine & View event.

PROGRAMME:

MOYO directed by Henry J Kamara (Tanzania)

Moyo is a raw and poetic portrait of the children that call the Jipe Moyo and Musoma home. Painting a playful and colourful picture of the people and culture, the film highlights the rhythm of this special region of Tanzania. Surrounded by exotic wildlife and extraordinary landscapes, the people of Musoma have achieved a distinct harmony with the environment around them which flows through everything.

AFTER WE ARE GONE directed by Ima Iduozee (Helsinki)

Zena enters an underground shrine to meet the royal priestess. As the ritual begins, she re-imagines the journey of the African Diaspora.

ODE TO EDEN directed by Jordan Ker Fox (South Africa)

Ode to Eden follows Chief Edmund Stuurman as he fights for the Khoi first nation status within South Africa. Along the way we learn about the history of the Khoi people, their forgotten heroes and how their race has been deliberately unclassified within the South African government.

A QUIET MONDAY directed by Dika Ofoma (Nigeria)

When the leader of a secessionist militant group in south-eastern Nigeria is jailed, his loyalists mandate a compulsory “sit-at-home” on Mondays in protest. Siblings Kamnonu and Ogbonna face danger when they defy the Monday restrictions.
