At the South London Gallery we have been facilitating inspiring encounters with art for decades. Our extensive community programme reaches thousands of children, young people and adults in south London each year. Help us to continue our vital work in our communities.
Our local area in Peckham and Camberwell is one of the most deprived in the country, nearly half of children are living in poverty and many of the young people have poor mental health. The area is proudly diverse, with a large population of Black, African, Caribbean and Black British people. Our work aims to create a fairer landscape for local people, in an area where race and inequality is so deeply intertwined.
Each year we aim to improve the lives of local children, young people and adults through award-winning projects that are free and open to all. The programme includes:
– a peer-led young people’s collective, Art Assassins – free monthly family art workshops, Family Space – Art Block, a space for children on Sceaux Gardens housing estate – artist-led schools workshops – weekly creative sessions for looked-after children, Supersmashers – cooking classes for local schools and families, Flavour Cravers
We need your support to keep delivering these impactful programmes. Donate today as part of The Big Give and your donation will be matched! All funds raised between midday Tues 19 March – midday Tues 26 March 2024 will be doubled.
