Support the Fire Station
We want to involve as many people as possible in our future plans.
The South London Gallery has been given the Grade II listed former Peckham Road Fire Station by an anonymous benefactor. Dating from 1867 it is the earliest surviving example of a purpose-built fire station in London, and possibly the UK, and is located only 125m from the gallery.
Our vision is to transform the derelict building into a new model of contemporary art space and annexe to our main site. Opening in 2018, the Fire Station will enable visitors to experience a wider-ranging contemporary arts programme and even more children and young people to benefit from education and training opportunities. Find out more about the history of the Fire Station here.
Building work has now commenced at the Fire Station, led by the acclaimed London studio 6a architects. Over the next 18 months the four-storey building will be completely transformed. The gallery’s fascinating archive of its 125 year history will be accessible to the public for the first time, both digitally and through changing displays in a dedicated archive room.
We urgently need to raise the final £700,000 of our £4million fundraising campaign so we can open to the public in 2018. Become part of the SLG’s future by making a donation and spreading the word about the Fire Station.
You can join a Fire Station giving circle or make a significant gift to name one of the new spaces.
You can also make a donation of any size by debit or credit card here and clicking on the Single Donation tab and select ‘Another Amount’. If you would prefer to donate by cheque or CAF Voucher please make these payable to 'South London Gallery'.
